Cookie Policy
Last updated: 30 March 20261. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how the Centre for Energy Equality (CEE) ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Listen marketing website (listen-website.web.app) and the Listen web application (the "App").
By continuing to use our website or App, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy. You can manage your preferences at any time — see Section 6 below.
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website or use a web application. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to the owners of the site.
Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which serve comparable purposes within web browsers.
3. Cookies Used on the Listen Website
The Listen marketing website is a static site and uses minimal cookie-like technologies:
| Name / Technology | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firebase Hosting | Firebase may set a cookie (__session) for CDN caching and to route requests correctly. |
Strictly necessary | Session |
We do not currently use any analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies on the marketing website.
4. Cookies Used in the Listen App
The Listen web application uses Firebase services which rely on cookies and browser storage to function:
| Name / Technology | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication tokens | Keeps you signed in and authenticates your requests. Stored in browser local storage and IndexedDB. | Strictly necessary | Until sign-out or token expiry |
| Firebase Firestore cache | Caches data locally for faster loading and offline support. Stored in IndexedDB. | Strictly necessary | Persistent until cleared |
| Google Maps | The App embeds Google Maps to display project locations. Google may set cookies for map tile delivery and performance. | Functional / third-party | Varies — see Google's Cookie Policy |
Firebase Hosting (__session) |
CDN routing and caching. | Strictly necessary | Session |
We do not currently use any analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies in the App. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and request your consent where required.
5. Types of Cookies Explained
- Strictly necessary cookies — Essential for the website or App to function. These cannot be switched off as the service would not work without them. They do not require consent under UK GDPR / PECR.
- Functional cookies — Enable enhanced functionality such as embedded maps. These improve your experience but the core service can still function without them.
- Analytics cookies — Used to understand how visitors interact with the website. We do not currently use analytics cookies.
- Advertising / targeting cookies — Used to deliver relevant adverts. We do not use advertising cookies.
6. How to Manage Your Cookies
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically:
- View what cookies are stored and delete them individually
- Block third-party cookies
- Block all cookies from specific sites
- Block all cookies from being set
- Delete all cookies when you close your browser
Please be aware that blocking or deleting cookies may affect your ability to use certain features of the Listen App (for example, you will be signed out if authentication tokens are removed).

7. Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies may be set by third-party services that appear on our pages. We do not control the use of these cookies. The third parties currently used are:
- Google (Maps) — Google Privacy Policy
- Firebase (Google) — Firebase Privacy & Security
8. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or for regulatory reasons. We will post an updated version on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
